San Cristóbal the Best Island in Galápagos

May 27, 2015

San Cristóbal is a great place to be when discovering Galapagos on a budget. It´s a small Island and maybe the best island in Galápagos.  I’m still discussing this with the tourist and the people who have lived around all the three inhabited islands in Galápagos. We all agree that the island is an excellent place to be.

What makes it great? First of all the sea lions are adorable, they are all over the island, you watch them every time of the day and night, whenever you like. They are just the best. San Cristobal is neither to busy or to quiet. Isabella, there is not much to do and Santa Cruz well there are more tourists. In San Cristobal, you get a more local feel for the Island, or that’s the vibe I had there for my 12 days on the island.

San Cristóbal The Best Island in Galápagos

San Cristóbal the best island in Galápagos, if you are young and one a budget. You can do many things for free and go to the local disco, meet volunteer people and locals. It is not big and very safe. In San Cristóbal you get very close to the fantastic animal life, and that is easy to enjoy.

Animal Life is FREE Watching

Then for a person that is on a budget, you can do a lot of FREE THINGS ON THE ISLAND and still see amazing things. My first day was arriving on the island; and I went snorkeling. I Almost crashed with a sea-lion when entering the water, then went swimming with the sea-lion and played with it for 10 minutes. Sea lions are very elegant and sophisticated underwater, and I looked like a fool swimming next to it. It was so beautiful to play with the sea-lion and swim beside her, and see what she was able to do underwater. Sea lions are rocking underwater yoga, that is for sure.

Then I went on to another beach, and there it was a turtle. I went swimming with that one as well before it went out into the big ocean again. On the beach there were so many black iguanas that were laying and enjoying the sun, I decided to do the same for some time. Ended up watching the Pelicans fishing and the blue-footed boobies landing.

How Much did it cost me to see all this amazing animals life?

2 US dollars in snorkeling gear. What a great first day.

When it comes to be around sea lions everywhere at anytime

Do not touch the sea lions babies. They get rejected by their moms, and they die. It breaks my heart to see sea lions babies that have to die because a human person had to touch it. Please respect the animal’s life and the baby’s life and not touch them. The baby sea-lion on this picture still has a good life. I have seen babies that will die because of evil human actions.
