Hiking in Lofoten with 3 Spectacular Hikes

January 12, 2022

Fløya 590 MAMSL

Reinebringen 448 MAMSL

Holandsmælen 434 MAMSL

Hiking in Lofoten with 3 Spectacular Hiks

When having a short time in Lofoten and many great things to do, maybe you will not have time to do all the great hikes in Northern Norway. I can recommend three hikes with insane scenery that will please any Christmas card for sending back home. The first hike is stunning Fløya at Svolvær 590 meters above sea level, and the second is the famous Reinebringen 448 meters. And the last is the local’s favorite which is Holandsmælen 434 meters. They all contribute with a dazzling view over Lofoten Island, some include top places in Norway.

Hiking in Lofoten with 3 Spectacular Hiks: Fløya in Svolvær, Reinebringen in Reine and Holandsmælen at Leknes.

Hiking in Lofoten, Norway

Expecetacions for hiking in Lofoten are proper moutains shoes! You maybe think that 600-400 meters or are not that much. I tell you, it is straight up the hill. No altitude is for free in Lofoten. Every step you take will work for reaching the top of the mountain. It is hard work, but I promise the view at the top will be worth the effort of acquiring the hill.

Hiking in Lofoten, Behind Svolvær in fron the Devils Gate.

Fløya & Devil’s Gate at Svolvær

If you want a spectacular view of Lofoten, you must try to do the hike to Fløya Moutain in Svolvær. On the way, you will reach the famous Instagram spot: The Devil’s Gate – if you dare to gon the rock, well, good for you 😀 I’m afraid of heights.

The Devil's Gate in Svolvær. Hiking in Lofoten

The Devils Gate

Starting the hike in steep uphill with some stairs support made by incredible sherpas from Nepal. Walking past Svolværgeita – (the goat) Or are you a climber that wants to summit? Hiking further up, approximately around 1,5-2 hours, you will reach: The Devils Gate. Enjoy the view and have a break before continuing onwards to Fløya. Bring food and water bottle, always when hiking in Norway.

Hiking in Lofoten with Fløya Will Give Panorma View of Lofoten

The last 20-40 minutes for reaching the top will give you a challenge if you are a bit afraid of heights but capable; if you can focus on your feet and keep your butt close to the ground, it will be fine. We used two hours to reach Fløya. We are Norwegians who are very used to hiking in the mountains and walking endurance. The good thing about hiking in the summer, you don’t need to be afraid of the darkness. In Northern Norway, there is midnight sun, which means you can even hike at 00.00 still see everything – the sun never sets, and the light is invigorating.

Hiking in Lofoten with Iqonic Reinebringen

The most famous hike in Lofoten is Reinebringen. After climbing 1566 stairs created by talented sherpas from Nepal. You will reach a dazzling view of Reine. Take as many pictures as you like before returning to Reine and the many places to eat in Lofoten. Please use mountain shoes on the hike.

Hiking in Lofoten must include Reinebringen

Hiking in Lofoten with the Locals Favorite: Holandsmælen

Holandsmælen is very doable, especially if you are a bit exhausted from Fløya & the hike of Reinebringen. When we hiked to Holandsmælen, we were almost alone on the mountain. Maybe one or two locals were passing by on the trail. We had a spectacular show by the sea eagle. The hike to Holandsmælen is beautiful nature and a gentle walk. For once, the altitude is gentle on your body.

Holandsmælen Alternative Hike instead of The Man

The view at Holandsmælen is very similar to the other famous hike named Mannen – The Man. The hike to Holandsmælen is around 40-70 minutes and can be done with kids from the age of eight (Norwegian kids like 5 years old if used to hiking). Also, a great hike if you are afraid of heights. The hike doesn’t have anything dangerous parts. Remember to find a place to enjoy the view, peace, and quiet of being in the mountains of Norway.

Hiking in Lofoten can also include local favorites like Holandsmælen close to Leknes.

Hiking in Lofoten: Essentials in the Daypack

Hiking in Lofoten and Norway is one of the best things to do when visiting Norway. Remember to be prepared when hiking in the mountains. Bring mountain shoes, a water bottle, COMPEED® Blister Plasters, extra pair of wool socks, a warm sweater, and a rain jacket. Food like chocolate, but also bring a banana ;).

More tips about hiking in Norway can be found in the blog post about the most famous hike in Norway: Besseggen.

A Norwegian Travel Voice & Trying to Impact the World by Nudging People to Choose More Sustainable Travel.

I’m shaped by nature. I grew up at the edge of th I’m shaped by nature.

I grew up at the edge of the Stadt peninsula — where the ocean doesn’t negotiate and the wind decides your plans. You learn early to read the sky. To sense the shift before the squall rolls in. To move before the door is pushed open.

The weather isn’t small talk at the coast.
It’s strategy.
It’s timing.
It’s survival.

And the women knew it best.

While the men were at sea, coastal women held everything together — land, livestock, homes, children, community. They didn’t call it resilience. They simply lived it.

They understood something very important that we need to remember well.

You don’t dominate nature.
You collaborate with it.

Today I live in the Lofoten Islands, again surrounded by strong coastal women. Different generation. Same backbone.

To adapt when conditions shift.
To build with the landscape, not against it.
To know when to move — and when to stand firm.

To me, that is a coastal inheritance.

The coast teaches you self-efficacy. Patience. Awareness. Respect.

It shapes women who know that sustainability isn’t about control — it’s about relationship.

And that’s the spirit I carry into my work, my travels, and the future I’m building.

Thank you @dino.serrao for capturing my coastal spirit in this portrait.
2025 was rich in good memories, wonderful times wi 2025 was rich in good memories, wonderful times with family and friends! It went so fast! Many highlights this year! And many great hikes even in Lofoten and Sunnmøre!

2025, I have used less time on my phone more flight mode, more with just being. It will continue onward for 2026. I’m still traveling and doing many mini adventures. Mostly being with loved ones.

In April we were in Cuba, which always disconnect but reconnect you much better with what matters and the importance of being grateful and appreciating what you have in Life. When we travel, how can we travel well, how do we show up at a destination.

My last international travel this year was Lanzarote, famous for its landscape and architecture. Best of all traveling with my sister. We used public buses, eat at different local places and guided tour to the national park. What an island!

I think one word that has been important this year for me is mindful. Be aware, be curious, ask open questions, reflect more before speaking and listen.

Being in nature is the best gift for human nature. We must visit more often. We must focus on our sleep quality.

I think 2025 have been a year of flowing and protecting my energy on what sparks joy to me. The most limited resource we have is time. How can we live the most happy with the time we have. How can we use our time and energy well.

2025 I’m very grateful for the year it was a blessing filled with love laughters, friendship and some important life reflections and some new changes.

2026, welcome let’s embrace and see where the wind takes us this year!

Wishing you all the very best new year filled with abundance, hope and peace. May the year be as good as you want it to be! Or even better as magical as you want ✨🤩
October disappeared in the blink of an eye! 😃 The October disappeared in the blink of an eye! 😃 The start of the month was breathtaking in Lofoten. We welcomed German travel experts for a MEGAFAM trip in the Lofoten Islands and had a blast connecting with new faces and industry colleagues. Truly amazing!!🤩 #lofoten #lofotenislands #megafam #lofoteninfo #visitnorway
Greece is always a good plan! This time we went is Greece is always a good plan! This time we went island jumping to Skiathos and Skopelos. You know the Mamma Mia Islands 🌞 Also Athens, but next post. I think Skopelos has the clearest water I have seen in Europe. So stunning so pure, wow! So green the Island. Could have been away longer as always, but now living slow cabin life before hitting back North. #islandescape #greece #visitgreece #skiathos #skopelos #islandsofadventure
