7 Great Things to Do in Lofoten

September 10, 2021
Lofoten & Norway is not created for being on the ass ;)

Lofoten is the part of Northern Norway where we travel to immerse ourselves in pure nature, wild mountains, the midnight sun if lucky, even Northern light in the winter. Lofoten is a small island paradise of the county Nordland. What more do you need: distinctive scenery, dramatic landscape, Viking history, and wild outdoor experiences? You need the list of 7 Great Things to Do in Lofoten. Because You can’t miss out on these highlights when being in Lofoten.

Remember: Lofoten & Norway is not created for being on the ass 😉

1. Hike the City Moutain Fløya of Svolvær & Devil’s Gate

If you are doing any hike in Svolvær, you should do the famous hike past the Goat of Svolvær. Further on to the Devil’s gate, and maybe you are brave enough to claim out on the Devil’s Gate for your Christmas card next year. The reward in the hike is the top of the city mountain of Svolvær named Fløya 590 AMSL. The hike will take around 3-5 hours, depending on your level of endurance. Yes, mountain shoes are required. Check out my packing list to Lofoten.

2. Dinnar at Maren Anne in Lofoten

We all love local food and, why not have it with Maren Anne in Sørvågen. She has a lovely restaurant overlooking the harbor with fishing boats. I recommend going for the set three-course menu. And if not, choose to your tongue. When speaking about tongues you must try the cod tongue dish at Maren Anne. It was the best dish in Lofoten. Perfectly cooked and was melting like butter, but having a pop with salmon caviar.

3. Cinnamons Buns at Å bakery

In 2017, when I was visiting Lofoten and Northern Norway, Å bakery was the trip’s highlight. On this trip was slightly disappointed due to the authentic bakery was no longer open for the public, maybe due to COVID. You will buy the tasty cinnamon buns at the store and not at the bakery. The taste is equally good. Cinnamon buns should absolutely eat during your stay on Lofoten island.

3. Reinebringen 448 AMSL at Reine in Lofoten

Reinbringen is iconic for anyone going or looking to go to Lofoten. By this, Lofoten’s star mountain Reinebringen must be hiked. Today it is more comfortable than before to walk up to Reinbringen. Thankfully, helpful sherpas from Nepal have put down hard work and put up more than 1560 stairs of stone. Reinebringen is now a more protected hiking site for the tourist. It has made it safer to hike Reinebringen. Nothing is for free in Lofoten when hiking. Reinebringen is 448 AMSL right up! The steps are demanding, and the repetitive motion of step after step is more strenuous on the body than normal hikes. You will need around 1-2 hours to complete the hike.

4. Pop-Up Kitchen at Polarhagen Lofoten

Why not support local farmers? Well, that is what Pop-Up Kitchen at Polarhagen is all about. Parsa and Lisa have dedicated souls to sustainable and local farming and have decided to play on terms with nature and are growing and harvesting what the Artic climate delivers of gifts from Mother Nature.

Parsa & Lisa want to show that food can be grown anywhere if you play on terms with the earth and the climate you are surrounded in. As a Norwegian, I was astonished by how many different vegetables they grew in their own garden in Lofoten. The fun part of the pop-up kitchen is the 24 different Pizza that Parasa creates with the stone pizza oven. My personal favorite was with meat, lemon, green kale, and local cheese from Loften gårdsysteri. It should not be missed when being in Lofoten. Pop-Up Kitchen at Polarhagen was my highlight of the trip to Lofoten.

5. Holandsmælen 434 AMSL (On the other side of the Famous: Man)

Always have a chat with the locals, then you are given a great option for new hikes that are not crowded but still deliver outstanding views and maybe a more gentle hike compared to the other hikes mentioned above. Holandsmelen is a cozy hike for the day when the legs are tired but still want to hike the mountains of Lofoten. On the top, you are delivered a fantastic view of the white, sand beaches Vik and Haukland.

In the east and south is the Buksnesfjord, in the west the Norwegian Sea, and in the north are the Himmeltindan mountains. You’ll also see the Leknes plateau and the gorgeous Haukland Beach. In other words, a stunning 365-degree view of Lofoten.

6. Best Burger in Lofoten are at Aimee’s at Leknes

If you by any chance should get tired of fish in Lofoten. It would be best if you had a stop at Aimee’s that make their own burgers out of local produce. Meat from local farmes, Geens from Polarhagen in Lofoten, the cheese from Lofoten gårdsysteri. The best burger in Lofoten, you are welcome, my friend. Enjoy this lovely meal of great local products.

7. Haukland Beach or Other Beach in Lofoten

The many beaches of Lofoten, who are the ones that you can easily spend a day at? Depending on the weather and all that. Uttakleiv Beach is great for surfing and eating cinnamon buns at Unstad Surf. Haukland beach is the place for a suntan and maybe a super quick swim in the ocean, and maybe the prettiest one? Uttakleiv Beach is for taking scenic pictures of the landscape. Lofoten Beach Camp is also is scenic but windy? Ramberg Beach is also a stunner. And then we have the beach at the farm, the only beach where you can camp right with the beach. If you are out camping with a minivan or tent, then this is a great beach to be right with the beach. They also have a great restaurant, and best of all, horseback riding on the beach if you fancy.

A Norwegian Travel Voice & Trying to Impact the World by Nudging People to Choose More Sustainable Travel.

I’m shaped by nature. I grew up at the edge of th I’m shaped by nature.

I grew up at the edge of the Stadt peninsula — where the ocean doesn’t negotiate and the wind decides your plans. You learn early to read the sky. To sense the shift before the squall rolls in. To move before the door is pushed open.

The weather isn’t small talk at the coast.
It’s strategy.
It’s timing.
It’s survival.

And the women knew it best.

While the men were at sea, coastal women held everything together — land, livestock, homes, children, community. They didn’t call it resilience. They simply lived it.

They understood something very important that we need to remember well.

You don’t dominate nature.
You collaborate with it.

Today I live in the Lofoten Islands, again surrounded by strong coastal women. Different generation. Same backbone.

To adapt when conditions shift.
To build with the landscape, not against it.
To know when to move — and when to stand firm.

To me, that is a coastal inheritance.

The coast teaches you self-efficacy. Patience. Awareness. Respect.

It shapes women who know that sustainability isn’t about control — it’s about relationship.

And that’s the spirit I carry into my work, my travels, and the future I’m building.

Thank you @dino.serrao for capturing my coastal spirit in this portrait.
2025 was rich in good memories, wonderful times wi 2025 was rich in good memories, wonderful times with family and friends! It went so fast! Many highlights this year! And many great hikes even in Lofoten and Sunnmøre!

2025, I have used less time on my phone more flight mode, more with just being. It will continue onward for 2026. I’m still traveling and doing many mini adventures. Mostly being with loved ones.

In April we were in Cuba, which always disconnect but reconnect you much better with what matters and the importance of being grateful and appreciating what you have in Life. When we travel, how can we travel well, how do we show up at a destination.

My last international travel this year was Lanzarote, famous for its landscape and architecture. Best of all traveling with my sister. We used public buses, eat at different local places and guided tour to the national park. What an island!

I think one word that has been important this year for me is mindful. Be aware, be curious, ask open questions, reflect more before speaking and listen.

Being in nature is the best gift for human nature. We must visit more often. We must focus on our sleep quality.

I think 2025 have been a year of flowing and protecting my energy on what sparks joy to me. The most limited resource we have is time. How can we live the most happy with the time we have. How can we use our time and energy well.

2025 I’m very grateful for the year it was a blessing filled with love laughters, friendship and some important life reflections and some new changes.

2026, welcome let’s embrace and see where the wind takes us this year!

Wishing you all the very best new year filled with abundance, hope and peace. May the year be as good as you want it to be! Or even better as magical as you want ✨🤩
October disappeared in the blink of an eye! 😃 The October disappeared in the blink of an eye! 😃 The start of the month was breathtaking in Lofoten. We welcomed German travel experts for a MEGAFAM trip in the Lofoten Islands and had a blast connecting with new faces and industry colleagues. Truly amazing!!🤩 #lofoten #lofotenislands #megafam #lofoteninfo #visitnorway
Greece is always a good plan! This time we went is Greece is always a good plan! This time we went island jumping to Skiathos and Skopelos. You know the Mamma Mia Islands 🌞 Also Athens, but next post. I think Skopelos has the clearest water I have seen in Europe. So stunning so pure, wow! So green the Island. Could have been away longer as always, but now living slow cabin life before hitting back North. #islandescape #greece #visitgreece #skiathos #skopelos #islandsofadventure
