7 Great Things to do in Palma de Mallorca

July 3, 2019
Palma de Mallorca in Spain. A weekend getaway.

Palma de Mallorca in Spain is part of the autonomous community of the Balearic island. It has become the beginning of being a cool getaway place for Madrileños (People from the Capital of Spain, Madrid) and other jet-setters around Europe. Palma de Mallorca is neighbor with Ibiza and the smaller island Menorca. If you are island hopping, you know what’s next.

Palma de Mallorca is the perfect weekend getaway for people living in Europe. By this, I went for a 72 hours trip exploring the capital of the Balearic Islands. Palma de Mallorca did not disappoint at all. Palma has divine tapas, the best haircut in Spain and also the famous cathedral of La Seu, that must be visited when spending a weekend in Palma de Mallorca. My list of seven great things to do in Palma de Mallorca has a variations of the things I feel is a must do when being on the island for a limited time.

1. Illetes for Crystal Clear Blue Ocean Water

  • Puro Beach Club

Palma de Mallorca is very close to some pristine places to get a swim and enjoy the beautiful coast of Balearic. Illetes is a 20-minute bus ride from the city center or only 10 minutes by taxi. Get swiped away by the water and the fresh ocean breeze, sit down and take in the view of this magnificent place of seven colors of the ocean.

2. La Seu the Majestic Cathedral of Plama de Mallorca

La Seu the Majestic Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca

Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral but with Northern European influences. It is located within the old city of Palma de Mallorca. The La Seu “vale la pena” which is Spanish and means that it’s worth the time to see it. If you are not in to churches drop it, but I loved the architecture of the La Seu.

3. Old Town Dinner at Provenzal

Dinner at Provenzal in Palma de Mallorca. Spanish croquettes are best in Spain!

After walking around in the old city and the La Seu the cathedral of Palma, it is time to find some tasty and mouthwatering tapas! I recommend PROVENZAL in the old town. It has the Spanish atmosphere of everything going on, but at the same time, there is still time to talk and have fun. Best of all, the food is the bomb! Tons of flavors and the seafood like scallops are a dream to eat. And so are the always famous prawns with garlic!

If you are traveling alone, as I did, hang out in the bar and have a lovely chat with some locals, I was talking to one guy he was currently speaking five languages that always impresses me. And then Emiliano from Italy that worked as a wine sommelier Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden, with of course fantastic wine, but also maybe the prettiest backyard in Palma.

If you are feeling somehow lost in the old city, that is the whole point of the town. In Palma the old city is influenced by Arabic architecture and structure by having different ways of the streets the enemy would get a lost or loose location and by this, the city had the advantage if enemies were going to enter the city.

Breakfast at Claro Mallorca opens from 08:30! It’s next door to the Mercat de Santa Catalina, where you can pick up some snacks if you are making a tapas at home or the beach.

4. Sóller Town A Day trip from Palma de Mallorca

  • Sóller
  • Sóller Tram

If you are in Palma de Mallorca without a car, there are still options for exploring the other side of the island, and Sóller is one of those options. The best part you don’t have to go on a tour. Taking the train to Sóller can be done entirely by yourself. Then also do visit the harbor of Sóller!

Sóller is the northern part of the island, and it is a beautiful scenery covered with lemons trees and oranges. Lather you will be eating the orange ice cream of Sóller.

Have lunch at Sabarca Restaurant in the beach promenade of Sóller.

5. DOOR 13 Best Cocktail Bar in Palma de Mallorca

If you say yes to cool people suggestions you end up places you did not know existed, that’s DOOR 13! Placed somewhere in the old town, behind a locked door where you need to ring the bell to enter! What an amazing venue! Best of all, live music every day. I don’t want to say more, because you should experience the place for yourself! DOOR 13 was sending me down the memory lane with their cocktails and flavors. Best bar in Palma de Mallorca if you want high-quality cocktails and wine.

6. Luxury Treatment at Silke Von Rolbiezki

Do you want to know a secret? I love cutting my hair in Spain! After living one year in Madrid, I completely fell in love with the level the hairdresser in Spain has, they are super good at there work. They are rock stars when it comes to making your hair looks like magic.

I don’t mind cutting my hair in Norway, but I feel that in Spain they step it up another level. Always feel fabulous when leaving. If you want to spoil yourself go to Silk Von Rolbiezki in Palma de Mallorca and forget the time for an hour or five.

My hairdresser was Erinn from the United States, and she has been living in Spain for ten years, by that the girl knew the standard and was giving me a daydream by doing my hair.

7. La Rosa Vermutería & Colmado

Truth to be told, I’m not sure if I like La Rosa Vermuteria, because it is very posh concept, because usually to take Vermut in Spain is done in very low key bars where the floors are dirty, and the people are hanging around to gossip.

If you have never experienced a vermouth place, this is a cool place to have your first vermouth experience, maybe not the most authentic place, but the food is tasty, and the vermouth was a refreshing cleanser for the palette.

7 Great Things to do in Palma de Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca was a perfect weekend getaway, and I had the pleasure of exploring the beach, the cutest town of Sóller and also Palma de Mallorca the capital of the Balearic island. I wish I had a car and could have been driving more around the island. Because as I have been told the island is a nature paradise, I got to explore some parts, next time with a care and more time.

I would have loved to see Caló des Moro, Cala Figuera, and Muro Beach and more places, always!

Accommodation in Palma de Mallorca

If you want a luxury stay and splurge away with a great place stay at Puro Modern Boutique Hotel or also Hotel Cuba with great views of old town.

If you want a budget–friendly hostel, I will recommend Singular Hostel. I stayed there myself during my three days in Palma de Mallorca, I had a very convenient stay.

Silvia created this great blog post: 27 Unique Things to Do in the Balearic Island – I used it for my daydreaming to Palma de Mallorca.

Looks like you had an amazing stay! I’ve never really looked into going to Mallorca myself. But it seems like the island definitely has a lot to offer. The ocean looks crystal clear and the beaches seem amazing. Not to mention the food! Perhaps the island is worth a weekend getaway, like you say? 🙂

I love when you comment on my blog <3 How cool that you have been hanging around in the island in different ways! I should have asked you for some inside advice! I loved Illetas beach, it was amazing, even alone, I was not alone. 100 other crazy people wanted to sunbath and enjoying the ocean. I have to say being there alone, wasn't the most fun, but neither the worst. I always make the most of it, I think I had some pretty cool experience!! I think sóller is the best. Next time I want to go with friends and rent a car to drive around the island!! Let me know and we go 😉

Aaah, I actually quite like Mallorca too myself, I’ve been several times with my family growing up, both on charter and renting our own house. The food is amazing, and I should find out what my fave tapas restaurant in Palma is called again. How was it like going to a beachy place like Mallorca on your own? I have yet to go, but I do imagine it would be rather peaceful (I have to admit I normally readreadread and pass out in the sun between swims even if I am at the beach with friends, though).

Now I really feel like having a vacation here! And having some rather amazing looking food and drinks. 🙂 Yum!

I’m shaped by nature. I grew up at the edge of th I’m shaped by nature.

I grew up at the edge of the Stadt peninsula — where the ocean doesn’t negotiate and the wind decides your plans. You learn early to read the sky. To sense the shift before the squall rolls in. To move before the door is pushed open.

The weather isn’t small talk at the coast.
It’s strategy.
It’s timing.
It’s survival.

And the women knew it best.

While the men were at sea, coastal women held everything together — land, livestock, homes, children, community. They didn’t call it resilience. They simply lived it.

They understood something very important that we need to remember well.

You don’t dominate nature.
You collaborate with it.

Today I live in the Lofoten Islands, again surrounded by strong coastal women. Different generation. Same backbone.

To adapt when conditions shift.
To build with the landscape, not against it.
To know when to move — and when to stand firm.

To me, that is a coastal inheritance.

The coast teaches you self-efficacy. Patience. Awareness. Respect.

It shapes women who know that sustainability isn’t about control — it’s about relationship.

And that’s the spirit I carry into my work, my travels, and the future I’m building.

Thank you @dino.serrao for capturing my coastal spirit in this portrait.
2025 was rich in good memories, wonderful times wi 2025 was rich in good memories, wonderful times with family and friends! It went so fast! Many highlights this year! And many great hikes even in Lofoten and Sunnmøre!

2025, I have used less time on my phone more flight mode, more with just being. It will continue onward for 2026. I’m still traveling and doing many mini adventures. Mostly being with loved ones.

In April we were in Cuba, which always disconnect but reconnect you much better with what matters and the importance of being grateful and appreciating what you have in Life. When we travel, how can we travel well, how do we show up at a destination.

My last international travel this year was Lanzarote, famous for its landscape and architecture. Best of all traveling with my sister. We used public buses, eat at different local places and guided tour to the national park. What an island!

I think one word that has been important this year for me is mindful. Be aware, be curious, ask open questions, reflect more before speaking and listen.

Being in nature is the best gift for human nature. We must visit more often. We must focus on our sleep quality.

I think 2025 have been a year of flowing and protecting my energy on what sparks joy to me. The most limited resource we have is time. How can we live the most happy with the time we have. How can we use our time and energy well.

2025 I’m very grateful for the year it was a blessing filled with love laughters, friendship and some important life reflections and some new changes.

2026, welcome let’s embrace and see where the wind takes us this year!

Wishing you all the very best new year filled with abundance, hope and peace. May the year be as good as you want it to be! Or even better as magical as you want ✨🤩
October disappeared in the blink of an eye! 😃 The October disappeared in the blink of an eye! 😃 The start of the month was breathtaking in Lofoten. We welcomed German travel experts for a MEGAFAM trip in the Lofoten Islands and had a blast connecting with new faces and industry colleagues. Truly amazing!!🤩 #lofoten #lofotenislands #megafam #lofoteninfo #visitnorway
Greece is always a good plan! This time we went is Greece is always a good plan! This time we went island jumping to Skiathos and Skopelos. You know the Mamma Mia Islands 🌞 Also Athens, but next post. I think Skopelos has the clearest water I have seen in Europe. So stunning so pure, wow! So green the Island. Could have been away longer as always, but now living slow cabin life before hitting back North. #islandescape #greece #visitgreece #skiathos #skopelos #islandsofadventure
