Postcard from Siracusa in Sicily

August 7, 2019

After seven days in Sicily in Italy, we are stoked to have taken the trip to one of the best islands in Italy. Our sevens days felt more like 14 days, due to doing so many wonderful things. Sister and I have had a great trip with many new great memories. Sister vacation is great!

Our trip started with maybe one of our craziest taxi transfer from the airport to Ortigia Island, which is the old part of Siracusa. Google map said 1 hour and 10 minutes it took us 45 minutes. I don’t remember the excuse the driver had due to being in shook, but he apologized for the crazy ride. He also said he usually drive normal. We arrived safely at our lovely hotel in Ortigia.

Siracusa

Ortigia is the old town of Siracusa, and is beautiful to walk around and get lost in the tiniest street you have ever walked in. And did you know that you can touch over to your neighbor when being on your balcony in Siracusa?

Did you know that in Ortigia you can eat anywhere and never get disappointed over the food? After four days of eating around in the town, we only discussed what was the best of the best! The creamy tomato ravioli or the pizza burrata that was more burrata then pizza. Oh and let’s not forget the creamy cannolis that are always room for in the stomach.

DIET IS A CRIME

If you are planning to go to Sicily remember elastic trousers, skirts, and dresses. And also to be on a diet in Sicily is a crime!!

The highlight of the trip was market in Ortigia with the best sandwich, where you are given the question: Do you trust me that I give you the best? It is not a real question, it is more like, I will provide you with the best, and you will love it. I love when people sometimes tell you that they know there shit best. He did, the sandwich was with triple cheese, mozzarella, ricotta, and another cheese I don’t remember the name of, and then Sicilian sun-dried tomatoes, olive oil, rocket salad, and two types of ham, amen and welcome to Sandwich heaven.

Cala Zaffiro with Sparkling Blue Ocean

One of the days in Ortigia, we decided to go out of the city center and explore a natural bay for swimming. Crystal clear blue water, perfect sea breeze, and ice-cold Aperol spritz in my hand. A pretty perfect day in the seaside of Sicily.

Noto the City of Baroque

Another great moment was our day in Noto, we went visiting Cafe Sicilia, and for you that don’t know that name or haven’t watched Chefs Table, well they are famous for there Granita and there love for the produce of Sicily. First, I had the lemon Granita with brioche, and the next day, the apricot, which was my favorite due to tasting like heaven on earth silky smooth and creamy on the tongue. Cafe Sicilia did not disappoint; even do we were not the only people who had seen Chefs Table, many tourists were there to taste the divines.

Airbnb Experience in Noto

The Airbnb experience was maybe the best surprise, due to having little expectations on what we were supposed to be delivered accept from excellent reviews.

The reviews were accurate, and we had a fantastic time exploring the farm to Fabio. The farm is inherited from his grandpa, and Fabio decided to keep staying local and authentic to the Sicilian agriculture. Growing Olives, Lemons, and low maintenance fruits in the form of water supply.

After walking around in the farm, we were in for a tasty Sicilian dinner. Starting with peaches then over to antipasti that included their cheese with local honey, bread, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, olive oil. Then zucchini and aubergine grilled to perfection, then we had pasta with dried tuna head shredded over the pasta as the salt pleaser. Then for dessert some chocolate and some homemade Limoncello.

If you want to meet Fabio and see his farm, check out his Airbnb experience: Tastes of Sicily at Our Farm

Etna Volcano & Agriculture Tourisme

We had the pleasure of staying at Etnella Eco Agriturismo, where we had dinner with wine tasting of natural wines from the Etna Volcano, and also we had amazing trekking around in the scenic landscape of Etna, which was an extraordinary experience due to being very different from other views in the world.

Sicily We Love You

What is our take on Sicily? Well, it’s easy, you should go! Sicily is terrific, and we only had seven days and decided to focus on the Siracusa area, we have a lot more to explore in Sicily, but our first taste of Sicily was everything we hoped for! Excellent food, wine, history, sparkling blue water, and Granita! We are thrilled to have covered Siracusa with Ortigia, Noto and Etna Volcano.

A Norwegian Travel Voice & Trying to Impact the World by Nudging People to Choose More Sustainable Travel.

I’m shaped by nature. I grew up at the edge of th I’m shaped by nature.

I grew up at the edge of the Stadt peninsula — where the ocean doesn’t negotiate and the wind decides your plans. You learn early to read the sky. To sense the shift before the squall rolls in. To move before the door is pushed open.

The weather isn’t small talk at the coast.
It’s strategy.
It’s timing.
It’s survival.

And the women knew it best.

While the men were at sea, coastal women held everything together — land, livestock, homes, children, community. They didn’t call it resilience. They simply lived it.

They understood something very important that we need to remember well.

You don’t dominate nature.
You collaborate with it.

Today I live in the Lofoten Islands, again surrounded by strong coastal women. Different generation. Same backbone.

To adapt when conditions shift.
To build with the landscape, not against it.
To know when to move — and when to stand firm.

To me, that is a coastal inheritance.

The coast teaches you self-efficacy. Patience. Awareness. Respect.

It shapes women who know that sustainability isn’t about control — it’s about relationship.

And that’s the spirit I carry into my work, my travels, and the future I’m building.

Thank you @dino.serrao for capturing my coastal spirit in this portrait.
2025 was rich in good memories, wonderful times wi 2025 was rich in good memories, wonderful times with family and friends! It went so fast! Many highlights this year! And many great hikes even in Lofoten and Sunnmøre!

2025, I have used less time on my phone more flight mode, more with just being. It will continue onward for 2026. I’m still traveling and doing many mini adventures. Mostly being with loved ones.

In April we were in Cuba, which always disconnect but reconnect you much better with what matters and the importance of being grateful and appreciating what you have in Life. When we travel, how can we travel well, how do we show up at a destination.

My last international travel this year was Lanzarote, famous for its landscape and architecture. Best of all traveling with my sister. We used public buses, eat at different local places and guided tour to the national park. What an island!

I think one word that has been important this year for me is mindful. Be aware, be curious, ask open questions, reflect more before speaking and listen.

Being in nature is the best gift for human nature. We must visit more often. We must focus on our sleep quality.

I think 2025 have been a year of flowing and protecting my energy on what sparks joy to me. The most limited resource we have is time. How can we live the most happy with the time we have. How can we use our time and energy well.

2025 I’m very grateful for the year it was a blessing filled with love laughters, friendship and some important life reflections and some new changes.

2026, welcome let’s embrace and see where the wind takes us this year!

Wishing you all the very best new year filled with abundance, hope and peace. May the year be as good as you want it to be! Or even better as magical as you want ✨🤩
October disappeared in the blink of an eye! 😃 The October disappeared in the blink of an eye! 😃 The start of the month was breathtaking in Lofoten. We welcomed German travel experts for a MEGAFAM trip in the Lofoten Islands and had a blast connecting with new faces and industry colleagues. Greece is always a good plan! This time we went is Greece is always a good plan! This time we went island jumping to Skiathos and Skopelos. You know the Mamma Mia Islands 🌞 Also Athens, but next post. I think Skopelos has the clearest water I have seen in Europe. So stunning so pure, wow! So green the Island. Could have been away longer as always, but now living slow cabin life before hitting back North. #islandescape #greece #visitgreece #skiathos #skopelos #islandsofadventure
