Sóller: A Day Trip from Palma de Mallorca

June 13, 2019
Train ride to Sóller

If you are staying in Palma de Mallorca, and want to see more of the island, but are without car; Then I highly recommend taking the charming old train from Palma to Sóller, northwest of Mallorca in Spain.

Train Raid to Sóller from Palma de Mallorca

Train Station of Sóller next to Plaza Espana in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Getting Tickets from the Train Station

Taking the train to Sóller can be done next to Plaza España, and it’s not where the other trains and buses are. The Sóller train station is next to the standard station and is a historical building. Remember to bring money! The ticket office does not take any cards of anything. Cash is king! And also the ticket is not cheap! I decided to go for the combo ticket for 32 EUR, that also includes the tram down to Sóller Port, which has to be visited as well. It’s spectacular! Go early and get value for your money!

Practical Information

The last train goes back at 18:30 from Sóller town. By this travel early in the day and then have enough time for Porto Sóller and also Sóller town.

The train journey takes 28 km which is one-hour trough breathtaking landscape and 13 tunnels carved into the landscape. The old wooden train is linking Sóller with Palma de Mallorca, and opened in 1912.

The Tram to Porto Sóller

If taking the train to Sóller Town, I would also recommend taking the tram down to Porto Sóller, which is where you want to retire when you get old. A perfect beach promenade with sea breeze and a tasty chilled glass of rose wine. Welcome to heaven in Spain.

The tram to Porto Sóller takes 30 minutes with more beautiful scenery and even more lemon trees around every corner. If buying tickets on the tram, it is 7 EUR and only cash.

About Sóller Town

The beautiful town of Sóller is covered in lemon trees and this is how the valley become wealthy back in the 19th century. Shipping lemons and orange to France from the west coast of Port de Sóller.

I sadly did not have have much time, only 30 minutes that is not giving justice to the place, because the cathedral is stunning and the plaza is lively.

About Porto Sóller

Porto Sóller is perfect for a relaxed beach day with divine lunch spots along the entire promenade when you are tired of eating and sunbathing, you can always go shopping for a classic Spanish bag or maybe even the fragrance of Palma de Mallorca; Bergamot, lemon, orange peels, salvia, lavender, chamomile, coriander nard and jasmine. My new favorite perfume.

EAT & DRINK

If being in Sóller you have to have the lemonade or the orange juice of Sóller or if not the ice cream of Sóller oranges which is the best.

Lunch at Porto Sóller

I had lunch at Sabarca Restaurant, with grilled squid, salad and a glass of rose, we need to enjoy all the goods of life. The squid was perfectly prepared, and it was tender and melted on my tongue. Seafood is a must when being at the harbor.

Traveling by Car in Mallorca

Sóller is a must do when visiting Palma de Mallorca either it’s by train, bus or car. If you have a rental car, you can park the car in the small town of Bunyola and only have the last most scenic part of the train ride. Another option is to drive to Sóller and from there take the tram down to the harbor. The tram and the train have a charm that you don’t get in a new car. It is something with a block of old wood and the sounds of a 1912 train moving forward in the terrain of Mallorca, Spain.

The family group, yes the kids loved this trip on the train and it is only one hour looking out the window in scenic landscape.

I’m shaped by nature. I grew up at the edge of th I’m shaped by nature.

I grew up at the edge of the Stadt peninsula — where the ocean doesn’t negotiate and the wind decides your plans. You learn early to read the sky. To sense the shift before the squall rolls in. To move before the door is pushed open.

The weather isn’t small talk at the coast.
It’s strategy.
It’s timing.
It’s survival.

And the women knew it best.

While the men were at sea, coastal women held everything together — land, livestock, homes, children, community. They didn’t call it resilience. They simply lived it.

They understood something very important that we need to remember well.

You don’t dominate nature.
You collaborate with it.

Today I live in the Lofoten Islands, again surrounded by strong coastal women. Different generation. Same backbone.

To adapt when conditions shift.
To build with the landscape, not against it.
To know when to move — and when to stand firm.

To me, that is a coastal inheritance.

The coast teaches you self-efficacy. Patience. Awareness. Respect.

It shapes women who know that sustainability isn’t about control — it’s about relationship.

And that’s the spirit I carry into my work, my travels, and the future I’m building.

Thank you @dino.serrao for capturing my coastal spirit in this portrait.
2025 was rich in good memories, wonderful times wi 2025 was rich in good memories, wonderful times with family and friends! It went so fast! Many highlights this year! And many great hikes even in Lofoten and Sunnmøre!

2025, I have used less time on my phone more flight mode, more with just being. It will continue onward for 2026. I’m still traveling and doing many mini adventures. Mostly being with loved ones.

In April we were in Cuba, which always disconnect but reconnect you much better with what matters and the importance of being grateful and appreciating what you have in Life. When we travel, how can we travel well, how do we show up at a destination.

My last international travel this year was Lanzarote, famous for its landscape and architecture. Best of all traveling with my sister. We used public buses, eat at different local places and guided tour to the national park. What an island!

I think one word that has been important this year for me is mindful. Be aware, be curious, ask open questions, reflect more before speaking and listen.

Being in nature is the best gift for human nature. We must visit more often. We must focus on our sleep quality.

I think 2025 have been a year of flowing and protecting my energy on what sparks joy to me. The most limited resource we have is time. How can we live the most happy with the time we have. How can we use our time and energy well.

2025 I’m very grateful for the year it was a blessing filled with love laughters, friendship and some important life reflections and some new changes.

2026, welcome let’s embrace and see where the wind takes us this year!

Wishing you all the very best new year filled with abundance, hope and peace. May the year be as good as you want it to be! Or even better as magical as you want ✨🤩
October disappeared in the blink of an eye! 😃 The October disappeared in the blink of an eye! 😃 The start of the month was breathtaking in Lofoten. We welcomed German travel experts for a MEGAFAM trip in the Lofoten Islands and had a blast connecting with new faces and industry colleagues. Truly amazing!!🤩 #lofoten #lofotenislands #megafam #lofoteninfo #visitnorway
Greece is always a good plan! This time we went is Greece is always a good plan! This time we went island jumping to Skiathos and Skopelos. You know the Mamma Mia Islands 🌞 Also Athens, but next post. I think Skopelos has the clearest water I have seen in Europe. So stunning so pure, wow! So green the Island. Could have been away longer as always, but now living slow cabin life before hitting back North. #islandescape #greece #visitgreece #skiathos #skopelos #islandsofadventure
