Tabarca Island is around 50 minutes outside of Alicante with the boat and is the only island inhabited on the Alicante coast. The island is 1750 meters long, with a maximum breadth of 300 meters, and entirely flat. Tabarca is the favorite getaway from Alicante at the weekend for the locals. You can also find adventurous travelers and sun-worshipers that are all hanging out on the island.
Exploring Tabarca Island
Tabarca Island is a protected marine reserve and a great place for scuba diving and snorkeling. The Island is surrounded by crystal clear blue water from the Mediterranean Sea. The ocean is calm, and you can swim among many fishes and marine life in the different bays. The Island has unremarkable biodiversity of flora and fauna that you can explore when walking on the various paths around the island.
Walk Around Lose Track of Time
If you are not a mermaid, go sunbathing in one of the bays around the Island or maybe hit the beach. The best thing about Tabarca is that it’s not a big island. Walk around the town for an hour, and then you have done the sites. Enjoy the rest of the day with salt water, sea breeze, and fresh seafood.
I spent my day in Tabarca by a hidden natural bay towards the lighthouse and away from the main beach. I finished off my day by walking in the main street and eating some delicious fresh seafood in the restaurant that the island inhabited.
