Behind the Scenes of the Dominican Republic Winter Escape

March 7, 2019
Behind the Scenes of the Dominican Republic Winter Escape

I decided that it would be fun to see the pictures from my phone from my traveling in the Dominican Republic. The photos from my iPhone are more authentic, and somehow is more about the fun and not only about all the pretty beaches in the Dominican Republic.

For some reason when it comes to catching the atmosphere, I often do it with the iPhone since it feels less invading on people compared to a camera, strange but somehow true or?

If you don’t want to read about my personal experience in the Dominican Republic, well then I have created 12 Days Travel Itinerary on the Island. If you want to get down with some honest information about the places I loved in the Dominican Republic, continue to read here! I will tell where not to waste your precious time.

New Stamp in the Passport is Always Fun

Las Galeras the Sleepy Beach Town

If you have followed me on my Instagram Pauline Travels, maybe you caught up on that I loved the small sleepy beach town of Las Galeras, far away from Punta Cana and Santo Domingo.

I love when I’m going somewhere and almost feel that I have kidnapped myself away from society. That is pretty much Las Galeras.

  • Las Galeras the beginning of the Town
  • Fruits from the Shack and the lovely old man
  • Love being somewhere warmer than Oslo, Norway.
  • Pineapple for Lunch, she could only sell a complete one, smart girl.
  • Couple Goals
  • After the Storm (just heavy rain) in Las Galeras
  • Beautiful Las Galeras
  • Las Galeras
  • Street Food is the best!

Why Be 2 When You Can Be 3?

If you look for the word safety in the Dominican Republic, well keep looking and let me know when you find it. Because why be two on a scooter when you can be three? It’s cheaper, more dangerous, more uncomfortable, and more fun.

Playa Rincón

Playa Rincón the most beautiful beach they say in the Dominican Republic, are you sure about that? It is for sure pretty, but the prettiest we can discuss it. We had a fantastic day in somehow cloudy weather in the tropical island, who needs sunshine, when you can be swimming in ice-cold mangrove water?

I somehow felt that I was back in Norway, but strangely enough, surrounded in the tropical mangrove forest. The Viking of me managed to swim up the river to get an inside view from the river, and it was worth the cold water. The ocean afterward felt like a spa treatment.

Playa Frontón

The prettiest beach in the Dominican Republic is Playa Frontón. A perfect spot to almost get killed when going out in the small boat with five meters waves, that’s the roller coaster in Las Galeras. Andre seemed to be having a normal day at work, and then we decided to be cool about it as well.

After 20-minutes of almost dying in the boat we entered paradise with crystal clear blue water, palms in every direction and coconut ready to drop in your head any moment. Welcome to the bay of Robinson in the Dominican Republic! What a dream!

  • Robinson where are you?

Las Terrenas for Party

Las Terrenas, I should have had more time with you! Only 48 hours is not ideal for experiencing the glory of what you have to offer. I very much enjoyed my 48 hours in this beautiful corner of la Samaná region on the island. I went chilling a whole day at Playa Bonita, and it was everything I asked for, nobody selling me bullshit, nobody wants to talk to me. Except for Sally when she woke up in the afternoon and was ready to hit the beach.

Sometimes I love being alone, and Playa Bonita was that. Beautiful sandy beach with fun waves to body surf and then quiet. Not many people this day. I was enjoying the tranquility until Sally came and said are you ready to go out again to dance to Dembow and taste some of the local rum. We only live once, and I’m up for some of the island fun. Have to enjoy it while you’re at it.

La Samaná for Whale Safari

Don’t stay in Samaná, only go there if you want to check out the Whales. It’s a middle stop for traveling further on to Las Terrenas or Back to Santo Domingo and Punta Cana. It is a small city center for the people on that part of the island, but no beautiful beaches in close distance. Stay in Las Galeras, much more fun and much more beach vibe.

The Whale Safari was maybe not worth the money and the hassle of going there. I did see the fuss about Cayo Levantado, which was pretty, if I could choose between that another day in Playa Frontón, I would be Robinson for one more day!

  • Andrea and Albert, the funniest people on the Island! Nothing better running into them when having lunch alone. Always better with great company!
  • Cayo Levantado it was pretty,
but only had 1 hour, 20 minutes and 10 seconds on the Island.
  • Cayo Levantado
  • La Samaná is the place to go for Whale Safari, don’t stay there. It’s not pretty. It’s okay.
  • The Bay of Samaná

Whales in La Samaná

Santo Domingo for Colonial Town

Santo Domingo for 48 hours was maybe some hours to many because I wanted more beach time. The Colonial side of the town is cute with its many first buildings in the New World of the European Settlement in the Americas.

I had many exciting people crossing my paths in Santo Domingo, which I love. It was a great time meeting up with my classmate Christina from EAE Business School in Madrid. Having Christina as my local tour guide gave me the best sites in the town. We went and had the local food Mangú or was it Mofongo, which is green bananas mash together with crispy pork crackling. It is heartwarming and feeds your soul and stomach for the rest of the day, or it is perfect recovery from a hangover. If you are out partying this will be your night food for sure.

I also had a small stop at Tres Ojos which is three big sinkholes right out of the city center, and it was fun to have a stroll around, almost Mexico but still not. I prefer them better when I can swim in them. It was worth a visit.

Punta Cana for Relaxation

I went to visit Punta Cana to meet up with some other friends from my time back in Madrid. The friends that gave me the idea of visiting this beautiful Island.

I’m not much of a resort girl and this kind of locations. Finishing up the trip with some relaxing days in Punta Cana sounded like a great idea for having a mini vacation and not be doing so much. Could be nice after some hectic days of exploring the Island.

Little did I know that my last three days of vacation was gone involve around being food poison and end up at the hospital. Then get drugged down by strong medicines. That was a shitty end of my time in the Dominican Republic.

I try to stay positive when this shit goes down, being alone in another country and then get dangerously sick, it was not fun. I survived, and it was okay. Luckily I was now staying at decent private hotel room not sharing a bedroom with four or eight other people.

Once again my travel insurance was my best investment for this trip. I can not even dare to think what it would have cost me if not. I did not pay anything at the hospital; they even arranged for my transport back to the hotel, and also gave me excellent care at the hospital.

My last night in Punta Cana, I was starving after 48 hours without food more or less. I was feeling in an okay shape to meet with my dear friend Jose for a small time exploring his part of Punta Cana, which is the best part since he lives in the area. He has the true spirit of enjoying life!

The Dominican Republic was an Island of Paradise

Happy Girl on the Happy Island

The Dominican Republic was truly an island paradise, with all the beautiful beaches I could dream about and even more. The best part of my trip was meeting up with other citizens of the world traveling the Island. Of course my friends from the Island. I had great fun, and the best part of the Island for me was Las Galeras. Of course, I have not explored the entire island of the Dominican Republic. Las Galeras was where I discovered the beauty of the Island, and the fun and relaxed atmosphere of being Dominican.

Playa Frontón was for sure the coolest and the prettiest beach on the Island, even so, wasn’t sure if we would make it alive to the bay. When we arrived, we entered heaven on earth or at least for this beach girl.

In Las Terrenas, I was trying to get into the religion of the sensual bachata and the fun merengue. And then there was also Dembow music from the streets. In Las Terrenas everything goes down in the Bar Replay, use a night or two there to have a fun party!

Furthermore, it was blast catching up with my Latin Spanish and all the new words from the streets of the Dominican Republic. It will be okay with only English on the Island. If you know Spanish, it will be fun on another level. That is the flow of things.

The Dominican Republic it was pleasure exploring you and thank you for being kind. And also keeping me safe while traveling solo around your island. As a solo female traveler, I had no problem with moving around feeling safe. There where some love phrases that was coming out from the guys, but it’s all about staying cool and not care and you will be respected.

Nos Vemos Pronto!

PS. If you have more than 12 days traveling seriously check out Colombia.

It teaches you to be happy about simpler things, it teaches you to be present, and most of all, to go with the flow.
