Aurland Mountain Road is another spectacular road in Norway and is included in the 18 Norwegian Scenic Routes. Previously I have written about the Old Mountain Road of Stryn, Jæren, Hardanger, and Northern Norway with Lofoten & Helgeland.
The old mountain road of Aurland can be driven when visiting Flåm. The first stop when driving the old mountain road of Aurland is the famous Stegastein viewpoint.
The Old Mountain Road of Aurland
The Road starts in Aurland and crosses over a spectacular mountain pass in Norway. From the Aurlandsfjord up the mountains, from the lush greenery to the stony wasteland and the high mountains. The contrasts are more incredible than ever on the old mountain road of Aurland. Remember to stop at Vedahaugane to enjoy the panoramic view.
Road Facts About The Old Moutain Road
The road is closed in winter but the stretch from Aurlandsvangen is open as far as the viewing point at Stegastein all year round. The highest point is 1,306 meters above sea level.
From Aurland to Lærdalsæyri, the distance is 47 km (Road 5627). Recommend visiting the old lærdalsæyri, with cute wooden houses from 1700 – 1800 that is well preserved.
